BUFF alum Chloe Okuno’s feature debut is an unholy concoction of paranoia, alienation and serial killers – when Jules, an American, moves to Bucharest with her boyfriend Francis for his new job, she finds herself a stranger in a strange land – unable to speak the language and increasingly isolated, she begins to suspect that her creepy neighbor spying on her from across the apartment may, in fact, be the serial killer targeting women within the city.
With razor-sharp tension and atmosphere, Okuno and writer Zack Ford create an uneasy portrait of a city as seen through the eyes of an expat who simply cannot blend in as well as that of a woman whose very rational fears are often dismissed and ignored by the men around her. A stylish thriller that would have made Hitchcock proud, this marks Okuno as a talent to watch.
