Due to growing health concerns surrounding the COVID-19 virus, it’s clear that we can’t, in good conscience, go on with this year’s festival as scheduled. In the best interest of our audience, community partners, and participating filmmakers, it would be egregiously irresponsible of us to potentially put anyone in harm’s way.
We are postponing our 22nd edition, which was set to take place March 25-29 at the Brattle Theatre, and although we are pretty devastated about it, we also know that it is the right thing to do.
What we can say right now is that we fully intend to hold our 2020 edition later this year, but we don’t know exactly when yet. We want to preserve our lineup as much as possible, and we are hopeful that the majority of you will still be able to attend.
Like many arts organizations and small businesses, we’re facing an incredibly frightening financial situation, as we’ve lost nearly all sources of revenue as a result of this situation. We hope we can rely on your continued support as we navigate these uncharted waters in the coming weeks and months.
We appreciate your understanding at this time and will keep you updated as the next steps forward are figured out.
With regards to Kickstarter backers: All of the BUFF swag we ordered is currently en route to our office. We plan to ship out those rewards to everyone in April. We had not anticipated any sort of situation like this, so we did not factor shipping costs for all of the backer levels into our campaign, which will entail further unanticipated expenditure. But we will get your items to you as promised.
We will 100% honor all tickets and passes purchased for our rescheduled dates. We understand this may not be ideal for everyone. If you would prefer to receive a refund, please contact us directly at email@example.com and we will get you sorted.
Participating filmmakers: What we can say right now is that we fully intend to hold our 2020 edition this year. We want to preserve our lineup as much as possible — all selected shorts will screen at our rescheduled event, so long as you still consent. You will be the first to know when we’ve found our new dates and you will be warmly welcomed back.
Brattle ticketholders: If you purchased BUFF tickets through the Brattle Theatre and need further information or assistance in dealing with any ticketing matter, please call the Brattle office at 617-876-8021 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
