Issa López (and special guest) with her Audience Award for Tigers Are Not Afraid at BUFF 2018

Last night at the Lilypad (and live on Instagram), we announced our 2018 Bacchus Award winners. Perhaps as a sign of our continued maturation, we’ve retired our infamous Most Effectively Offensive award. However, with approximately 50% of the features in this year’s program being debut films, we’ve replaced that badge of (dis)honor with our sparkling new Best First Feature award. We proudly sit at the vanguard of strange and unusual cinema, so it only seems fitting that we honor the first-time filmmakers at BUFF for their bold and audacious premieres.

And, so, without further ado, we present to you our 2018 Bacchus Award Winners:

Thanks to all the volunteers, filmmakers, and fans who came out over the past five days to make BUFF XX the greatest 20th anniversary we could’ve asked for. I’m sure we say some variation of this every year, but this really felt like our best year yet. Every single person who has joined us on this 20 year journey deserves an award. We can’t wait to see you all again next year when we’re finally old enough to drink!
