Director Travis Betz, last seen at BUFF in 2009 with Lo, reteams with actress Sarah Lassez (also of Gregory Hatanaka’s Mad Cowgirl) to tackle the tricky genre of “supernatural musical horror.” Fi is the successful author of a series of novels about zombies. Her boyfriend Wes is a wedding photographer who is sick of weddings. When Fi is hit with a particularly frustrating case of writer’s block, her sanity begins to unravel.

As Fi becomes increasingly unhinged, Wes suspects there may be more malevolent forces at work. He is desperate not to lose his partner. But to what or whom is he losing her? Interwoven with their story is a fiction within the fiction, the story of the characters in Fi’s novel – Harper and Max, zombies trying to hold their relationship together while searching for food in a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

Beautifully shot and unexpectedly moving, this film will stay with you – both the story and the tunes. The compelling dialogue and strong performances from Lassez as Fi and Dustin Fasching as Wes allow for seamless transitions into and out of the musical numbers. At once funny, touching, and haunting, The Dead Inside is an underground film that deserves a wider audience. We are delighted to be able to bring it to you. …And did I mention it has zombies?
